Kirstenbosch in All Its Glory September 2020
Tuesday 8 September 2020 saw picture perfect Spring weather in the Mother City.
Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden is just a ten minute drive from Lavender House B&B and, after breakfast and housekeeping activities were done, I headed up to this paradise for a few hours.
There are so many diverse aspects to the this beautiful place, but today I focused on the shady Camphor Avenue, just as you approach the garden from the Main Gate.
The trees in this avenue are remnants of trees planted by Cecil John Rhodes in 1898. These trees have grown into the fine specimens we see in the photo I took this morning. It is the feature photo of this article.
The trees Rhodes planted came from China, Hong Kong, in fact, according to the information board at the start of the avenue.
Their shade offers welcome respite from the summer heat.
The avenue creates a beautiful, peaceful place to enjoy the sounds of bird life and there are cycads, ferns and clivia in the beds below the tall giants.
It's a magnificent place and I am richer for visiting it - every time!
